Tomball (April 24, 2026) – Through Lone Star College (LSC) and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), LSC STEM students have a $15,000 annual, renewable scholarship opportunity. The scholarship opportunity seeks to increase technical talent in high-demand fields, cultivate innovation, and fill local industry needs. Former Lone Star College-Tomball international student, Daniel Witt, was awarded the scholarship.
“The scholarship helped tremendously,” said Witt. “First, it eased the financial burden that college comes with. Especially as an international student who usually must pay out-of-state tuition. Luckily, the UTSA LSC STEM Scholarship also qualified me for in-state tuition. Besides the monetary aspect, being awarded the scholarship felt great, like all my effort was worth something.”
To be eligible, LSC STEM students must meet the following criteria: transfer from LSC, have a minimum 2.75 GPA, and maintain a 2.5 GPA to retain the scholarship each year. Qualified students must have completed 24 credit hours of coursework at LSC and must enroll full-time at UTSA in a program at the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design or the College of Sciences.
“My time at UTSA and in the engineering department has been phenomenal,” said Witt. “In my first semester at UTSA, I didn't get into all the classes I wanted. But this semester, I finally have only engineering-related courses. Seeing how everything comes together, one subject builds on another, and that all the topics are in some form related, is a great feeling. With the engineering courses came a drastic increase in workload, but now that I see that everything is related, it appears it will get easier. I was also fortunate to meet a few very great people, friends, faculty, and staff, which is the cherry on top.”
The UTSA LSC STEM Scholarship is another way LSC is fulfilling its vision to help students get from where they are to where they want to be.
“LSC, with all its resources and wonderful faculty and staff were a constant support during my time there,” said Witt. “Especially the Office of Student Success, Phi Theta Kappa, and my former supervisor, Terri Garcia, who always had words of wisdom and advice. To this day, I am still in contact with many of my LSC mentors. LSC has a lot to offer and a place for everyone to not only feel accepted but welcome.”
