A generous $10,000 donation will allow the Lone Star College-Kingwood Theatre Department to provide scholarships to even more students.
The donation followed the 35th anniversary of the Lone Star College Foundation StarGala on May 2 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center.
Theatre Department Director Eric Skiles and two LSC-Kingwood theater students, Comfort Azagidi and Caitalin Campbell, served as emcees for the event.
Nearly 450 guests attended this year’s StarGala, raising $525,564 to support student success.
“It has been my pleasure, over the past 12 years, to be the emcee of the Lone Star Foundation Star Gala,” Skiles stated. “It is an evening that celebrates the success of our students and raises money to help the next generation of students achieve success. It is an evening of gratitude. My own gratitude goes out to the donors who chose to support our Theatre Department directly with this amazing gift. This generous donation will provide scholarships to our students for the next several years – what an amazing legacy to create.”
Campbell received an individual $1,000 scholarship from an anonymous donor following the ceremony.
“This scholarship gives me encouragement and support for the work I have done and the road ahead. With this scholarship I can pursue my passion and education to be the student I want to be without limitations.”
Azagidi also received a scholarship on the spot that evening from University of Houston-Downtown, where they will transfer in the fall.
“The past two years at Lone Star College Kingwood have truly shaped me into the person I am today,” Azagidi remarked. “I am incredibly grateful for the family I’ve found in the theater department and for all the opportunities it has given me. With every show, I have grown not only as a person but also as an artist.”
Under Skiles’ leadership, the theatre department has earned numerous awards over the years including the prestigious TxETA (Texas Educational Theatre Association) Award of Distinction in 2025. The award recognizes exceptional campuses from elementary through higher education across Texas.
“As I take my next steps, I want to thank Professor Skiles for always believing in me,” Azagidi said. “Going to Lone Star College has been one of the best decisions I have made, not only academically and financially but also socially and creatively. Finally, I would like to thank Deborah Bordelon for entrusting me with this scholarship."
Since 2012, generous donors contributed more than $61,800 in scholarships to theatre students at the Kingwood campus.
