HOUSTON (June 18, 2026) – Lone Star College-Montgomery is committed to helping students succeed by providing crucial resources to help keep them on the path to graduation.
“Many students face challenges that are not academic,” said Dr. De' Reese Reid-Hart, LSC-Montgomery president. “When students are confronted with food insecurity and access to other basic needs, it creates barriers that impact successful completion.”
The LSC-Montgomery Maverick Care Center was designed to meet those needs, providing students the support and materials to help them fulfill their goal of a college education. In the last year alone, The Maverick Care Center assisted with 6,069 food visits and 756 clothing visits. In addition…
- Food visits increased by approximately 79%.
- Food items distributed grew by approximately 80%.
- Hygiene items increased by approximately 31%.
- Clothing items increased approximately 54%.
- Newly introduced school supplies expanded from 0 to 148.
“These numbers represent more than inventory,” said Reid-Hart. “They represent stability. They represent access. They represent the ability for a student to stay focused on their goals.”
Demonstrating a shared commitment to student success, The Rotary Club of The Woodlands recently hosted a community breakfast benefiting the LSC-Montgomery Maverick Care Center. The event brought together business and community leaders to learn more about the Care Center's impact while raising $2,800 to provide students with access to food assistance, professional clothing, hygiene products, and other essential Care Center items and resources that help remove barriers to completing their education.
“This support signals something important,” said Matthew Samford, LSC-Montgomery dean, Student Success and Retention. “It demonstrates a shared belief that education extends beyond the classroom and that when we support the whole student, we strengthen the workforce, families and the future of our region.”
