KINGWOOD (August 24, 2026) – The Kingwood Chorale’s upcoming season will feature unprecedented collaboration among groups all over the region.
“Making music together is one of the most ‘human’ things that define us as a species. While it is possible to make music alone, it only truly comes alive when another human hears the music and receives something from it,” said Dr. Todd Miller, LSC-Kingwood professor of music and artistic director and conductor.
Over the next year, the Chorale will be collaborating with The Texas Medical Center Orchestra, the Rice University Chorale, the Houston Youth Symphony and the Texarkana Regional Chorale.
The first concert will feature Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. It is the first symphony to utilize a choir and is considered one of the masterpieces of Western civilization. For this performance, the Kingwood Chorale will team up with the Rice University Chorale and Texas Medical Center Orchestra at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Theater Center.
The second fall concert is titled American Quilt 250: The Musical Fabric of Our Country. This concert will highlight various types of choral music throughout American history. Special guests include soprano Nancy Curtis, trumpeter Todd Olges and violinist Xia Xia Zhang. This concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 21, at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, 5520 Kingwood Drive.
In late January, the Kingwood Chorale will join forces with the Houston Youth Symphony and the Rice Chorale to present another epic work: Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, commonly known as the Resurrection Symphony. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, in Stude Concert Hall at Rice University, 6100 Main St, Houston.
The Kingwood Chorale, accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra, will conclude its season with a tribute to Beethoven on the 200th anniversary of his death. The performance will feature a collaboration with the Texarkana Regional Chorale to present a new edition of Beethoven’s Christ on the Mount of Olives, sung in English. The combined 120-voice choir will present this dramatic oratorio in a special afternoon concert at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Strawbridge United Methodist Church, 5629 Kingwood Drive in Kingwood. The concert will be repeated at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 1 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 407 Beech St., Texarkana, Arkansas.
“When music is made between many persons from various groups and backgrounds, the way is paved for a common purpose and greater understanding of each other,” Miller said. “We put aside political, religious, and ethnic differences in pursuit of a common goal, which is beauty and harmony.”
