Lone Star College-Montgomery introduces Maverick MVP program to help students succeed
HOUSTON (Aug. 28, 2026) – Today’s job market not only demands employees who have the knowledge to perform the necessary job duties but also possess important “soft skills” that demonstrate how well they work and deal with other people.
“Lone Star College-Montgomery knows that a well-rounded education includes being taught the skills needed to become an employee who understands the importance of being able to build relationships that lead to success,” said Matthew Samford, LSC-Montgomery dean, Student Success & Completion/Retention. “That’s why we have introduced the Maverick MVP program.”
The Maverick MVP (Most Valuable Professional) program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to build connections, gain confidence, and understand career growth pathways. Maverick MVP students will recognize the importance of…
• Communication: Speaking and writing well and listening to others.
• Teamwork: Working collaboratively to reach a shared goal.
• Problem-solving: Finding smart ways to solve unexpected issues.
• Adaptability: Staying calm and changing their plan when things change.
• Time management: Planning their hours so they complete work on schedule.
“Students are taught how to build trust with coworkers and clients, skills that are hard for computers or AI to copy,” said Samford. “These skills apply to almost any job or industry and are a great way to support your future.”
