Professor of Accounting Julie Duncan, CPA, receives 2026 TXCPA Outstanding Accounting Educator Award for excellence in teaching, innovation and service to the accounting profession

HOUSTON, Texas — October 9, 2026 — Lone Star College–Online Professor of Accounting Julie Duncan, CPA, has received the 2026 Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TXCPA) Outstanding Accounting Educator Award in the Community College category, a statewide recognition honoring excellence in accounting education and service to the profession.

Duncan received the award June 25 during the TXCPA Annual Conference in San Antonio. The Outstanding Accounting Educator Award recognizes Texas accounting educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching and distinguish themselves through active service to the accounting profession.

Duncan was nominated by TXCPA President Tracie Miller, who highlighted Duncan’s engaging online course design, use of data-informed teaching strategies and emphasis on real-world workplace skills during the award presentation. Miller also recognized Duncan’s approach to helping students see accounting as practical, meaningful and full of professional opportunities.

“Julie’s recognition reflects the kind of teaching excellence we strive for at Lone Star College–Online; innovative, student-centered and connected to the skills students need beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Cindy Manjounes, chief academic and innovation officer at Lone Star College–Online. “Her ability to combine thoughtful online course design, data-informed instruction and real-world application creates meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for continued academic and professional success.”

“As an online community college professor, I have the privilege of serving students who may not be able to attend a traditional classroom. Many of my students balance full-time work and school while caring for their families,” Duncan said. “Bringing high-quality accounting education directly to them and helping them learn, grow and open doors to new careers is what drives my commitment. I am grateful to TXCPA for recognizing the heart and hard work educators across Texas are investing in the next generation of business leaders.”

The recognition reflects Duncan’s work across teaching, student engagement and professional service; areas highlighted during the award presentation as central to her commitment to student success, innovation and service to the accounting profession.
