The Last Day to Apply for Summer 2010 Financial Aid is June 30

Lone Star College-North Harris students in need of financial aid for summer 2010 classes, have until June 30 to complete the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), if they have not already done so. Recent legislation has made additional Pell Grant funding available for this summer, so it is not too late to qualify.

“There have been some recent changes in how federal financial aid is awarded and we want to make sure our students are taking advantage of it,” said Vickie Johnson, director of financial aid for LSC-North Harris. “However, the FAFSA is always the first step, so it is critical that they are completing it every year, as early as possible.”

June 30 is the deadline for completing the 2009-2010 FAFSA, which determines funding through the summer 2010 semester.

The 2010-2011 FAFSA is used to award funding for the fall 2010 semester through the summer of 2011. Any students who plan to take classes in the upcoming fall, spring or summer semesters should complete it as soon as possible.

All FAFSA forms are available online at www.fafsa.gov.

“It can be a little overwhelming, especially for first-time students, trying to figure out which forms they need to complete. But we encourage students to call or come by the financial aid office and get any help they may need. Our advisors will work with them one-on-one to make sure they are not missing out on any available funding,” added Johnson.
