LSCS-SBDC seeking nominations for annual awards

(June 24, 2010) – The Lone Star College System Small Business Development Center Advisory Council is now seeking nominations from the community for the 24th Annual Small Business of the Year awards.

The LSCS-SBDC Advisory Council will recognize successful small businesses that make an impact in the local community and on the economy.

Small business owners will be selected on the basis of leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, business growth and success, and contribution to the community.  Three finalists will be selected from each of the five college service areas and ultimately one winner from each college area will be named.

All 15 finalists will be recognized at the 24rd Annual Small Business of the Year awards banquet on Nov. 18.  Nominations may be made by individuals, businesses and organizations.

“This recognition of exceptional small businesses is always a remarkable event,” said Sal Mira, executive director of the LSC-SBDC. “It gives our community the opportunity to spotlight small businesses that as we know are the engine of our economy.”

Guidelines and nomination forms are available by visiting http://sbdc.LoneStar.edu/. Nominations for this year’s awards are due to the SBDC by Aug. 2.

Mira said business owners and community members alike are encouraged to submit the names of those they know in the LSCS service area they feel would be deserving of this “Business of the Year” recognition. Organizations such as chambers of commerce may also nominate businesses, he said.
