LSC-Carver Center Hosts Aug. 20 Open House for Senior Citizens in Acres Homes

The public is invited to attend the Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) Open House at Lone Star College-Carver Center in the Acres Homes community on Friday, Aug. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. The event is free, but reservations are requested and can be made by calling 281.618.5626 or 281.216.7947.

ALL provides opportunities for mature adults to enjoy intellectual and social enrichment. Anyone age 50 and older is invited to join. The membership year is from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, and yearly membership fees are $20.

In addition to learning about ALL and its fall class offerings, the open house will feature Barbara McGinity, of the Houston Better Business Bureau as a guest speaker. Her presentation entitled “Understanding Medicare” will focus on the issues and questions most important to Medicare participants.

Participants enjoy a wide-variety of classes being offered throughout the year for free or very low supply or event costs at both LSC-Carver center or the LSC-North Harris campus. Classes include information technology, fitness classes, writing, crafts, gardening, history, day trips and more. Special elder topics, such as Social Security and Medicare, are also presented during the year.

Those interested in ALL are also invited to take advantage of the upcoming open enrollment month. During August anyone may take a class for free, but must register in advance. For more information or to receive a complete list of upcoming classes, call Carole Wiater, ALL coordinator, at 281.765.7947 or visit the Web site at LoneStar.edu/all-nharris.
