Sounding the Sirens to Support Students: Emergency Responder Calendars On Sale at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Recent Lone Star College-Montgomery fire science academy graduates Justin Jones, Matt Gonzales, John Breaux, Ross Havlick, and Patrick Dorsey help sell the 2010-2011 Emergency Responder Calendars, a 16-month calendar featuring former fire science students. Proceeds from the calendar provide scholarships for students at the college. The sirens are sounding at Lone Star College-Montgomery with hopes to raise much-needed scholarship money for students. As part of Healthier U, the college’s long-running annual scholarship fundraising event, LSC-Montgomery is selling a 16-month calendar filled with images of its fire science and emergency medical technician students in action!

This is the first time that Healthier U has sold a calendar for scholarship funds.

“The Healthier U committee is very pleased to present the Emergency Responder Calendar to the public, who for the past 13 years has supported our efforts in raising scholarship money for students,” said Mary Hoff, division operations manager and Healthier U coordinator. “In addition to being a practical wall calendar with room to record daily events, the calendar photos provide a delightful look into our fire science program.

For only $12, buyers receive a professional-quality 16-month calendar spanning September 2010 through December 2011. As Hoff mentioned, the calendar includes ample space to record daily events, as well as important LSC-Montgomery events and significant historical dates in the fire science industry.

The Emergency Responder Calendars will go on sale at the LSC-Montgomery campus beginning Monday, October 4, coinciding with the start of Fire Prevention Week (October 3 – October 9). Current fire science students and former fire academy graduates will sell calendars on Monday, October 4, and Wednesday, October 6, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; and Friday, October 8, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., in The Commons (Building A).

“This is a great time not only to sell the calendars to support the students at the college, but to create further awareness throughout the community of the importance of fire safety and prevention,” said David Griffin, fire science program director at LSC-Montgomery. “Former fire academy graduates are photographed in the calendar, and some of them will be available at the sales events to sign their picture if buyers would like.”

Calendars may also be purchased on Friday, October 15, and Friday, October 22, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., in The Commons (Building A).

In addition, calendars will be available for purchase at LSC-Montgomery’s 15th Anniversary Celebration, on Saturday, October 16, from 1-5 p.m., at Market Street in The Woodlands. This celebration is a family-friendly, community-wide event with free refreshments, live entertainment, fun activities, and plenty of information about the college’s numerous programs.

Quantities of the calendar are limited, so be sure to purchase your calendar as soon as possible!
