‘Tis The Season of Giving at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Before loading up a table full of presents and delivering them to a deserving family, Dr. Austin A. Lane, president of Lone Star College-Montgomery, and Mary Ann Mendoza, program manager for faculty and staff development at the college, pause for a moment to showcase the employee’s giving spirits for a family in need.

This winter, the staff and faculty from LSC-Montgomery united together to play “Santa” for a single mother and her son nominated through the Montgomery County Women’s Center Share a Family project.

“All in all, $550 in cash and gift cards was donated by the employees, in addition to purchased gifts from the family’s wish list,” said Mendoza. “These donations will truly make this family’s Christmas a little bit better.”

In addition to the family sponsorship, the college’s natural and health sciences division collected a separate $700 donation for the women’s center to help other families in need.

“We have a very unique connection with the women’s center,” said Lane, “In fact, some of our very own students were able to continue their education and enhance their lives through scholarships from the center. We’re glad to have been a part of supporting this family this holiday season.”

The Montgomery County Women’s Center offers shelter, counseling and legal services for victims of domestic violence, as well as client scholarships, crisis intervention, community outreach and more.
