Academy for Lifelong Learning to Hold Open House on Saturday, January 22

The Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Lone Star College-Montgomery will host its spring open house and social on Saturday, January 22, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the first floor in Commons (Building A). The public is invited, and entertainment and refreshments will be provided.

ALL is a membership organization filled with lectures, seminars, and discussions geared toward the 50-plus retired or semi-retired individual interested in remaining “plugged in” to the academic, learning environment. The classes are informal and informational and cover a variety of topics such as art, computer technology, personal growth, languages, history, travel and more.

The open house is a chance to learn about the new and recurring ALL classes being offered during the upcoming spring semester, socialize with other academy members, and meet some of the class instructors. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to register for classes and be introduced to the new online registration process.

“Our motto, ‘Embrace Technology: Leave No Senior Behind,’ will help direct our focus to teaching the older adults how to shop online, as well as register for the ALL program online in a safe manner,” said Donna Smith Burns, ALL program coordinator at LSC-Montgomery.

“We’ll even have technology coaches available at the open house to assist in the training,” said Helen Bostock, volunteer chair of the ALL advisory council and co-chair of the ALL technology committee. “We’ll still keep it fun, though, so it shouldn’t be too intimidating.”

The ALL organization will also recognize the Volunteer of the Year at this event.

“This event will be filled with energy, excitement and discovery as those young at heart embrace LSC-Montgomery for their lifelong learning experiences,” said Celyn Christophe, director of continuing education at LSC-Montgomery.

A small annual membership fee of $35 allows members to take academy courses free of charge or at a minimal rate. The annual membership lasts from September 1 to August 31. The entire schedule of classes can be viewed online or picked up at our campus or the public library.
