LSC-Tomball to hold Pharmacy Technology Program information session on October 15

Lone Star College-Tomball’s Pharmacy Technology Program will be holding an information session at LSC-Tomball on Wednesday, October 15 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Room 215 at LSC-Tomball’s Health Sciences Building, located at 700 Graham Drive in Tomball. The information session is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

With the aging baby-boom population and increasing healthcare needs, employment for pharmacy technicians is very high. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment for pharmacy technicians is expected to increase 32 percent from 2010-2020. This equates to an additional 108,300 jobs in the field within the 10-year period.

Pharmacy technicians are paraprofessionals who work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to assist with activities that do not require the professional judgment of the pharmacist.  LSC-Tomball’s pharmacy technology certificate program (accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists) is a two-semester cohort program that provides an excellent introduction to the pharmacy profession and prepares graduates to sit for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination, administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, to become a certified pharmacy technician (CPhT).
