Senior Zhorae Adams Wins HNW Chamber Scholarship

Three seniors at area high schools were awarded $1,500 scholarships at the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce's annual Education and Scholarship Luncheon on April 9.

 

More than 100 applicants competed for the awards.

 

Senior Zhorae Adams from Andy Dekaney High School in the Spring Independent School District won a $1,500 scholarship sponsored by LSC-University Park. LSC-University Park President Shah Ardalan, who also serves as the chair of the Chamber's Board of Directors, presented Adams with a certificate, check and a Leo the Lion mascot pin.


In addition, Veronica Sanchez, a senior at Early Victory College High School in Aldine ISD, received the $1,500 scholarship presented by Entelrgy, and Samah Kahn, a senior at Klein High School in Klein ISD, received the $1,500 scholarship sponsored by Dignity Memorial.

 

More than 250 individuals from schools, businesses and organizations turned out for the event, which was held at Klein ISD's Multi-Purpose Center on FM 2920.

After the luncheon, Ardalan greeted three area superintendents, Dr. Jim Cain of Klein ISD, Dr. Wanda Bamberg of Aldine ISD and Dr. Rodney Watson of Spring ISD. 

 

As part of the program, the superintendents participated in a panel discussion on current issues facing school districts, including funding, offering competitive teachers' salaries and future plans for their respective districts.

 

LSC-University Park was one of the luncheon's sponsors and college administrators who attended visited with scholarship winners and their parents, teachers and administrators.
