Lone Star College names new LSC-CyFair president

Lone Star College announced Dr. Seelpa Keshvala has been named as the new president of LSC-CyFair after a nationwide search. Keshvala will become LSC-CyFair’s third president effective March 1.

Dr. Keshvala currently serves as president of the Warsaw Campus of Ivy Tech Community College, Warsaw, Indiana, since March 2014 where she previously served as vice chancellor and executive dean since 2012.

“Dr. Keshvala’s educational background, work experiences and personality will be a welcome addition to the college and Lone Star College System,” said Dr. Stephen C. Head, LSC chancellor. “I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Dr. Deana Sheppard for her leadership in serving as interim president during this transition and to members of the Search Advisory Committee for their excellent work.”

Dr. Keshvala will be introduced to the LSC Board of Trustees at its regular meeting Dec. 3. 

“I am excited at the opportunity to join Lone Star College and am honored to be selected to serve as the third President of Lone Star College-CyFair,” said Dr. Keshvala. “LSC plays a central role in ensuring access to higher education, providing a well-prepared workforce, and growing a vibrant community. I look forward to working collaboratively with the talented faculty and staff at LSC-CyFair and building on its remarkable history.”

Dr. Keshvala holds a Ph.D. in urban education with a concentration in educational administration; a M.S. in curriculum and instruction; and a B.S. in elementary education all from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Dr. Keshvala served as executive director of the Educational Opportunity Fund Program and Recruitment, Burlington County College, Pemberton, New Jersey. She also taught GED/HSED (General Education Diploma/High School Equivalency Diploma) at Milwaukee Area Technical College for six years and was a third and fourth-grade teacher at Milwaukee Public Schools from 1998-2002.

Ivy Tech Community College, where Dr. Keshvala serves as president of its Warsaw campus, is Indiana’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation's largest singly accredited statewide community college system.

All finalist candidates for the LSC-CyFair position participated in meetings and open forums with the chancellor’s cabinet, community leaders, faculty, staff and students.
