Choir serenades the nighttime at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Lone Star College-Montgomery student James Davis will lead the choir in his gospel favorite “Jesus is the Light,” written by V. Micheal McKay Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall located in building H.

The Lone Star College-Montgomery Choir will perform its
fall concert “Nightfall,” Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall located in building H.

The show will feature a variety of choral works centered on an evening theme. Selections will include Jonathon Dove’s spiritual classic “Seek him that maketh the seven stars” and Daniel Elder’s “Lullaby.”

“Through these songs, the choir truly shines,” said Mark Marotto, director of choral activities at LSC-Montgomery. “Every choral concert at LSC-Montgomery is special, and this selection soars to a new high. I’m so honored to bring these arrangements to the school and the community.”

Marotto will step away from directing to let LSC-Montgomery student James Davis lead the choir in his gospel favorite “Jesus is the Light,” written by V. Micheal McKay. “When Dr. Marotto first asked me to do this, I got excited,” said Davis. “Jesus is the Light is special to me because we all want to be a light shining to those who might be in a gloomy place in their life, spiritually, physically or mentally. The song is not an entertainment or a performance to me it is something that I am doing to minister, and anytime I get the chance to minister I think that that’s the most exciting opportunity you can have.”

Davis is a certified nursing assistant and the Minister of Music at Antioch Baptist Church in Willis. He is taking prerequisite classes and plans to get his nursing degree from LSC-Montgomery. This summer he traveled with the College’s choir to Cuba.

“I am grateful and thankful to be a part of whatever I can while I’m at LSC-Montgomery,” said Davis. “I am 59-years-old, I am back in school doing something I have not done in years. I have been given opportunities that I never dreamed of and I will always have these memories. Looking back on these moments I will have nothing but joy.”
