Lone Star College, University of Houston-Victoria partner for student success

Lone Star College and the University of Houston-Victoria signed a “Proclamation of Agreement”, creating a transfer pathway for LSC students to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree at UHV.

“Lone Star College continues to form regional partnerships to provide additional educational opportunities for our community,” said Dr. Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “This relationship offers our students yet another opportunity to succeed.”

"The bottom line is both institutions want to see our students prosper," said Vic Morgan, UHV president. "By working together to remove any real or perceived hurdles, we are setting the groundwork for students to conveniently earn associate and bachelor's degrees. We are thrilled to be working with Lone Star College and looking forward to exploring ways to further the relationship."

Officials from both colleges, including Dr. Alicia Harvey-Smith, LSC executive vice chancellor; Dr. R. Vic Morgan, UHV president;  Richard Phillips, UHV associate provost; and Lance LaCour, Katy Area Economic Development Council, president/CEO, were on hand at LSC-University Park to sign the agreement and officially launch the partnership.

"We look forward to a long and successful relationship,” said Dr. Alton Smith, LSC Board of Trustees chair. “I believe the two institutions can help us reach the 60x30TX goal of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.”

The 60x30TX initiative calls for at least 60 percent of Texans, ages 25-34, to earn a certificate or degree by 2030.

Other LSC Board of Trustees members in attendance included Dr. David Holsey and Myriam Saldívar, assistant secretary.

“Lone Star College and University of Houston-Victoria make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Harvey-Smith. “This is an important day for us.”
