Lone Star College-Small Business Development Center moves annual awards dinner to luncheon

The Lone Star College-Small Business Development Center has decided to transfer their 31st Annual Small Business of the Year awards dinner to a luncheon. The luncheon will remain on the same date, Nov. 9 and be held at the Lone Star College Community Building. The presenting sponsor for this year’s luncheon is BBVA Compass Bank.

The decision to move the dinner to a luncheon was driven by Hurricane Harvey. “With the recovery across our service area ongoing, we felt it wasn’t appropriate to be asking for sponsors to a dinner or asking the nominees to send these applications in. Then the fact that our voting committee was comprised of area chamber presidents and campus presidents--all who are busy with recovery efforts in their communities or campuses,” said Miguel Lopez, Lone Star College-SBDC executive director.

The luncheon will celebrate the resilience and success of small businesses throughout the Lone Star College service area. “We are very happy to celebrate and recognize our small businesses and owners. Their success and economic impact is a key to the fabric of the local communities and economies,” said Lopez.
