LSC-University Park library announces recycled book art winners

Each year, LSC-University Park students in art appreciation classes are called upon to utilize their creativity, resourcefulness and problem-solving skills to create 3D sculptures from recycled books.

The unique project celebrates the power of the imagination and brings attention to the importance of recycling. The Student Learning Resource Center (SLRC) displayed the artwork, and invited students, faculty and staff to vote for their favorites.

Luna Mayhew received first place for her book sculpture “Life from Death,” while Marissa Gaines received second place with her piece “The Solar System.” Shelby Mackellar took third place with “The Trial.”

The Art Department at LSC-University Park offers a range of foundation and intermediate art courses, including options in art appreciation, art history, drawing, painting and design. Registration for the December Mini-Mester and the spring semester is open. Visit LoneStar.edu/UP-Spring for more information.
