Learn from Master Vocalists at Upcoming Virtual Events

Master Vocalist ClassesVocalists have a unique opportunity to be part of Virtual Vocal Master Classes this fall for free with visiting opera artist Dr. Rick Piersall and Lone Star College-CyFair’s award-winning faculty artists.

“Not only will students learn from our nationally-recognized faculty artists representing a wide range of experience from opera to art song, but students may also participate as master class performers and receive constructive feedback and support,” said Dr. Brian Herrington, LSC-CyFair Department Chair of Music, Drama and Dance.

Among the featured artists in the Faculty Artists Virtual Master Class, set from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, are professors Alex Qian, who is also LSC-CyFair Artistic Director of Vocal Activities, Daniel Trevor Bircher, Dr. Zachary Bruton, Laura Coale, Dr. Monica Isomura and Drew Slatton.

Save the date Nov. 18 for the Visiting Artist Virtual Master Class, also 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., featuring Dr. Piersall, Director of Opera and Professor of Voice at Abilene Christian University.

Reviewers have referred to Dr. Piersall’s voice as “beautiful”, “reminiscent of Fischer-Dieskau” and “touchingly expressive” and described his acting performances as “comic genius”, “sympathetic” and “poignant.”

Dr. Piersall has been heard locally in performances with the Houston Chamber Choir, Rice University Opera and Opera in The Heights. He has directed operas at Stephen F. Austin State University, Houston Baptist University, and the University of South Dakota.  He has appeared in operatic leading roles in Utah, Iowa, North Carolina and Texas, including Abilene, Amarillo and El Paso.
