Bosque Gallery Season Begins with Virtual Art Show "Continuum" and Artist Interview

EmergenceAs Lone Star College-CyFair’s spring semester gets under way, so does the college’s Bosque Gallery art season with "Continuum" - A Retrospective showcasing the works of Denise Lorenz.

“We are very excited to continue to bring great art programming to our students, faculty and friends with a combination of virtual talks and exhibitions, online and through Instagram, as well as some physical displays by appointment only,” said Jasleen Sarai, LSC-CyFair Bosque Gallery Director.

The spring exhibition schedule kicks off with an LSC-CyFair adjunct instructor's virtual exhibition through Feb. 25. Lorenz has exhibited in more than 200 shows throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, India, and Japan, winning many local to international awards.

“My 40 years as an artist has been an exciting journey, where in one respect I ended where I began, with a love of texture and the myriad molecules in motion it always represented to me,” said Lorenz, who once upon a time owned a dance studio teaching ballet and other dance forms. “'Continuum' reveals a cyclical path from realism to nonobjectivity to abstraction and back to extreme realism. The selected works were chosen to delineate a path for the viewer to trace the development of an artist through time.”

Some 25 years of dance contributes to the love of motion evident in her artwork including paintings, drawings, etchings and collages. Throughout the years, Lorenz said capturing motion and arresting motion have continually played a part, a need for freeing space was important, color was an imperative and composition and texture were strong motivators.

Landforms IIIHer current focus alternates between a series of hyperreal rock drawings and more abstract impulses continuing her interest in abstraction versus mimesis, as well as in atmosphere versus solidity.

Learn more about this artist and her creative journey in a pre-recorded artist interview on Instagram at 6:30 pm. Jan. 28.
