Enjoy story time, crafts, magic and more in LSC-CyFair’s Summer Reading Program

LSC-CyFair's Summer Reading ProgramLone star College-CyFair’s Summer Reading Program is still virtual this year, but the family fun and program prizes are real.

In keeping with the Harris County Public Library (HCPL) system’s theme of "Tails and Tales" this year, LSC-CyFair’s talented and creative librarians and staff members have numerous exciting online programs scheduled between June 7 and Aug. 7. All programs can be found at this link: cflibguides.lonestar.edu/events/children.

One of the weekend theme-related programs is “Spin Me a Tale.” Join children's librarians Miss Krissy, Miss Missy and Miss Jen in a short fairy tale retelling. This program will be released at 1:30 p.m. Fridays on YouTube and Facebook.

LSC-CyFair's Summer Reading ProgramThen “Caturday Story Time” offers 10 a.m. cat-themed story time, crafts and brain games for all ages, while “Crafting with Kitties” at 1 p.m. features cat-themed crafts for all ages. These weekly Saturday programs will be published on Facebook, YouTube and IG TV.

Don’t miss the entertaining summer art, magic and music performers being presented in collaboration with HCPL found at this link: hcpl.net/virtualprograms.

Save the date June 12 to find joy in drawing while watching the live 1 p.m. “Kids! Learn to Draw with Mark Kistler!” Teaching children and parents around the world for more than 40 years and with over 1 million how-to-draw books sold, this Tomball resident can teach your family, too.

LSC-CyFair's Summer Reading ProgramJoin another live program at 6:30 p.m. June 30 with John O’Bryant as he presents “All-ages Magic of the 70s & 80s.” The show will be filled with family-friendly magic, comedy, illusion, giveaways, and a learn magic segment.

Then July 8, a pre-recorded musical program “Books Alive Presents: Tacky the Penguin,” will be released at 11 a.m. and then be available for viewing through Aug. 18. Tacky's an odd bird, something of an eccentric, which his fellow penguins find somewhat bothersome until his odd behavior saves the day. This bright, engaging, fun for all ages performance is based on Helen Lester’s beloved children’s book of the same name.

Families can register for the Summer Reading Program at hcpl.beanstack.org/reader365 and will have the option to pick up their reading incentive prizes in the library or curbside.

LSC-CyFair's Summer Reading ProgramThe LSC-CyFair library offers a variety of book clubs, game nights, Learning, Inspiration, Friendship and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs throughout the year for childrenteens and adults, as well as student and community resources that went virtual due to the pandemic.
