Bosque Gallery Hosts In-person Pandemic Patchwork and Virtual Student Art Shows

Josefina Barassi sits with her “Pandemic Journal” project, a look at U.S. life during the pandemic with fabric, thread and ink, now on display at LSC-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery.Enjoy a holiday surprise with two art exhibitions – a look at U.S. life during the pandemic gallery display and the bi-annual student art show online - as the semester wraps up at Lone Star College-CyFair.

Come by the Bosque Gallery in person through Dec. 15 to see artist Josefina Barassi’s “Pandemic Journal” display – an embroidered patchwork and quilted documentary project of this very recent, yet historic time, which “happened to all of us” in the Cy-Fair community and the nation.

Using image-text and textiles as elements to narrate, Barassi said she combines texture-color-language to convey the core of an emotion, the “gut feeling” of a moment in history. The part of the project exhibited in the Bosque Gallery intertwines events related to the pandemic and its effect on society with important social/political moments during 2021.

“I am fascinated by how a table phrase, a post on a social network, or a quote from a newspaper article can illustrate ‘beliefs,” explains Barassi. “I want to highlight the direct relationship between thoughts, feelings and actions with my work in an attempt to raise awareness of the importance of being honest about our own subjectivities, and by doing so, be more empathetic with others who might think differently.”

This unique “Pandemic Journal” exhibition overlaps with LSC-CyFair’s end-of-the-semester Student Art Showcase, which will be on display online through Dec. 10. Go to LoneStar.edu/BosqueGallery to see the students’ creative talent expressed in a multi-media representation of drawings, two-dimensional design works, advanced studio, ceramics, photography and painting.
