LSC-Kingwood’s Phi Theta Kappa Nabs Prestigious Awards at Conference

LSC-Kingwood’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter continues to dominate at regional and international conferences. Most recently, Alpha Lambda Xi received 6 awards at the 2023 International Catalyst Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Six students attended the conference, which included sessions with speakers such as Actress Geena Davis and former NFL Linebacker Manti Te’o. The students were also able to participate in leadership workshops. The convention ended with a ceremony and gala.

Chapter Advisor Dr. Matthew Newton thanked the administration, faculty, and staff. “Though these awards are indicative of the incredible work that our officers, members, and collaborating students have done over this year, these accomplishments also owe a massive debt of gratitude to you all as well…I want to thank you all for your unwavering support and allowing our students to soar to such incredible heights.”

The awards received were:

-Seventh Finalist for Most Distinguished Chapter (awarded to the eighth highest scoring chapter in all of Phi Theta Kappa among its 1250+ chapters based on an average of their scores for the Honors in Action and College Project hallmark entries)

-Distinguished Chapter Award (awarded to the top 50 scoring chapters in all of Phi Theta Kappa among its 1250+ chapters based on an average of their scores for the Honors in Action and College Project hallmark entries)

-Distinguished Honors in Action Award (awarded to the 41 highest scoring entries in in all of Phi Theta Kappa based on their Honors in Action Project entitled: “The Art and Science of Nostalgic Play: The Escapism of Recess for College Students”) 

-Distinguished College Project Award (awarded to the 41 highest scoring College Project entries in all of Phi Theta Kappa based on the Summer 2022 Summer Bridge Program)

-Paragon Award for New Advisors: Dr. Jared Miller (awarded to the Top 20 scoring entries in all of Phi Theta Kappa for advisors with less than 4 years of service)

-Distinguished Chapter Advisor: Dr. Matthew Newton (awarded to the Top 20 scoring entries in all of Phi Theta Kappa for advisors with more than 5 years of service)

Alpha Lambda Xi also received numerous awards at the 2023 Texas Regional Convention.
