STAR Bundle

At Lone Star College, students don't need to make separate purchases for textbooks - it is all included! Lone Star College's STAR Bundle is an innovative, personalized, and affordable solution for students. At the start of each semester, students will receive all their required digital and physical course materials they need in order to succeed.

Here's how it works

Students are automatically enrolled in STAR Bundle each semester with the option to opt-out. Once registered for the upcoming semester, the bookstore will begin bundling required course materials.

On or before the first day of class, students will be able to access their digital materials through D2L and pick up their physical course materials at the designated STAR Bundle pickup location for their home campus.

The cost is currently $21 per credit hour, which is automatically included on students' accounts and applied regardless of the cost of individual textbooks. Beginning Fall 2026, the rate will increase to $24 per credit hour.

How to Get Course Materials

The bookstore will know what materials students need. Digital materials will be delivered to D2L on the first day of class and physical items will be delivered to a student's home campus or preferred address.

Required Steps:

Access digital materials: Students will need to check their Lone Star College email for instructions on how to access their digital materials. Depending on the item, materials will be accessed through D2L or a publisher's website.
Pick up physical items at the STAR Bundle pickup location on your home campus. Check your email confirmation for your assigned pickup address and review the Campus Store website for up-to-date hours of operation.

Student FAQ

The STAR Bundle program is a course material delivery program where a student�s required course materials are provided to them automatically on or before the first day of class. This ensures that every student is given the same access to their required materials they need to succeed in class. The cost of the materials is administered through the school on the student�s account.

Students will receive course materials that are listed as required, but not optional. Items that are considered consumable (lab goggles, calculators, dissection kits, etc) may also be required for the class but not included with STAR Bundle. Students should check Course Notes for additional information.

Students can view their bookshelf through D2L or visit the website at lonestar.textbookx.com and log in with their Lone Star College credentials. Their "Student Homepage" will list all registered courses and the materials they will receive.

A majority of the classes are included in STAR Bundle, but Continuing Education and some Dual Credit classes are excluded. Students should reach out to their Dual Credit coordinators for more information.

Yes, students will automatically be enrolled in STAR Bundle for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. They may opt-out each semester.

Please note: Winter Mini session is tied to the Spring semester. Opting out of Spring means you are also opting out of the Winter Mini Session.

Yes. Students can opt-out through their Student Homepage on the Textbookx website. If students received physical materials as part of STAR Bundle, they will need to return those items back to the location they picked them up. Students will be charged for any materials not returned by the third week of class to their student account.

Yes, students can change their decision up to the opt-out deadline, which can be found on the STAR Bundle website or at the top of their Student Homepage. No, the bookstore will know what required materials students will receive through STAR Bundle. A confirmation email will be sent before classes start to their Lone Star College email.

1. Students will go to https://lonestar.textbookx.com/account/ea_address.php and sign in with their myLoneStar credentials
2. Student�s home campus address is automatically populated as the default address
3. To change the shipping address, click on �Student Selected Address�
4. Enter the new address�s details
5. Click on �Validate Address� to ensure address is entered in a way that will be accepted by shipping systems
6. Click �Save Address Changes�

Most materials are digital. Students can log into their bookstore account to check which are digital or physical.

STAR Bundle is digital-first. If a student prefers physical books, they can opt-out and purchase materials directly from lonestar.textbookx.com.

No, physical books are owned by the student. Digital materials may expire�check expiration dates in the bookstore eLibrary account.

Physical materials are delivered to the student�s home campus by default. Students can choose to have their materials delivered to a different address by changing their shipping address before the deadline each semester (See Important Dates).

Several notifications will be sent reminding students to pick up their course materials. If students do not pick up their course materials, they will still be charged the STAR Bundle charge. Abandoned items will become property of Lone Star College

Abandoned Book Procedure

Students with textbook accommodations will need to contact their campus Disability Services office to ensure they receive their materials in the proper format.

Star Bundle charges are calculated based on class enrollment each semester and follow the standard payment deadlines. Payment for the Star Bundle is the same as making payment for tuition and fee charges and is covered by financial aid (if applicable).

Adding a class: The bookstore will continually check for new enrollments in classes up until the add/drop date, so any new materials that are needed will continue to be processed. To check the delivery status, students can visit their bookstore account and click �Track.�

Dropping a class: If physical items were delivered to the student, they will receive an email with return instructions. They will be charged the full price of any physical materials that are not returned. For digital course materials that have not been accessed, codes will be deactivated and the student will no longer have access to the materials.

If a student recently added a course, then the order might still be on its way. Students can visit the Textbookx website to review their personalized Student Homepage, which will show when items arrived or if they are still on their way. Students can also contact the bookstore for a status update or to review their account in case there is a discrepancy.

If there is a problem with the items that were delivered, the bookstore will work with the student on a solution. Contact them via the lonestar.textbookx.com/help

Students can contact the bookstore through the Textbookx website and they will assist them. Make sure to include email, course name, course section, and the ISBN of the missing item.

Students that are only enrolled in 8W2 or 8W4 classes are considered a late start student.

Faculty FAQ

Every student receives their course materials � digital and/or physical � by the first day of class. When students are provided with their materials on time, they can engage with them early and often and experience better learning outcomes resulting in successful program completion and graduation.

All students are included in this program with the exception of Continuing Education and some Dual Credit courses.

Yes. Students can choose to opt-out if they like through the Textbookx website.

STAR Bundle provides course materials adopted as required. Akademos sources both digital and physical texts. The format often depends on the selected items and their availability.

Faculty can work with their textbook adopters to select the materials they feel are best for their class, including traditional course materials, OER materials, or other non-textbook items. Digital materials are highly encouraged because they are more affordable and students receive access immediately, which can be helpful if they add or drop courses. The adoption portal provides the tools, analysis, and information so that faculty and administrators have a clear picture of textbook costs for transparency and can review opportunities to lower costs term over term.

Adoptions are due April 1st for the following academic year. Once submitted, Akademos reviews them to ensure that a) availability is established, b) the lowest cost formats are sourced, and c) any recommendations are made available to the adopter. If Akademos anticipates any availability issues, they may reach out to recommend alternative formats (ebook vs bundle or physical request).

Yes, faculty who wish to utilize a physical option for their course materials may indicate this choice when making their adoption section. Once approved, Akademos will deliver the item in a physical format.

If faculty have created materials that include selections of traditional texts, library resources, PowerPoint slides, etc., they can submit those through the adoption portal and it will be provided as a coursepack.

Yes, this program includes all courses in a term and is not offered on a course-by-course basis. Faculty should indicate that their materials are OER or Other in the adoption portal so bookstore staff can provide a full course list to students.

Lone Star College encourages faculty members to submit their adoptions early and to avoid making last-minute changes. If there is an unavoidable change, faculty should contact their VPI for approval.
