Election Overview
The members of the Board of Trustees of the Lone Star College System District are elected and hold office for a term of six years. The terms are staggered. Trustee elections are held every two years on the first Tuesday of November. There are nine single member districts that span across parts of Harris, Montgomery, and San Jacinto counties. About Lone Star College
Lone Star College System District (the "System") enrolls over 90,000 students each semester providing high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education. The System is training tomorrow's workforce today and redefining the community college experience to support student success. Mario K. Castillo, J.D., serves as Chancellor of the System. The System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area and has been named a 2025 Great Colleges to Work For® institution by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The System consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College. The System's service area includes the territory within (i) Aldine, Cleveland, Conroe, Cypress Fairbanks, Humble, Klein, New Caney, Magnolia, Montgomery, Splendora, Spring, Tarkington, Tomball, and Willis independent school districts in Harris, Montgomery, and/or San Jacinto Counties; and (ii) Huntsville and New Waverly independent school districts in Walker County.
The System's vision statement is "The System will lead higher education in offering high-quality, affordable education while consistently evolving to meet the community’s needs in academic and workforce education." The System’s mission statement is, "The System provides transformational educational opportunities that help individuals get from where they are to where they want to be."

Qualifications
In accordance with Texas Election Code, Title 9, Chapter 141, Subchapter A. Sec. 141.001. and LSCS Board Policy, I.H.1.03 Qualifications, Trustees must meet certain qualifications to qualify for the office of trustee. A candidate must:
- be a U.S. citizen;
- be 18 years of age or older on their first day in office, whether by appointment or election;
- have resided continuously in Texas for 12 months;
- have resided and registered to vote in the trustee district in which they seek to serve;
- A mentally incapacitated person may not serve as Trustee;
- Trustees cannot be convicted felons unless they have been pardoned or otherwise released from resulting disabilities; and
- Serve without compensation.

Campaign Finance Reports
The 88th Legislature passed HB 2626, which requires all political subdivisions to post on their website all campaign finance reports filed on or after September 1, 2023.
HB2626 became Texas Election Code § 254.0401. Availability of Reports on Internet. The campaign reports must remain on the political subdivision's website for five years after the report is first made available.

Filing Procedures
Procedures for Filing for Board of Trustee District 3, 4, and 9 Election to be held on
November 3, 2026.
Candidates must submit an Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate (CTA) form before they can file for a place on the ballot. The CTA can be submitted by email to lsc-elections@lonestar.edu or in person at:

- Applications for a place on the ballot will be accepted in the Elections Office,beginning Monday, July 20, 2026, through Monday, August 17, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note that the office is closed on Friday, July 24, Friday, July 31, and Friday, August 7. The Elections office is located at:

- A filing fee of $200 or a petition signed by 200 registered voters (residents of the district for which the candidate is filing) is due at the time the application is filed. Deadline for filing is Monday, August 17, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
- Please note the Application for Place on the General Election Ballot, must be notarized.
- The $200 filing fee will be accepted in the form of cash, check, certified check or money order.
- If a petition is submitted in lieu of the filling fee, the petition will be verified in accordance with Texas Election Code Sections 141.062 and 141.063. A copy of the applicable code is available on the link here: (link) http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/EL/htm/EL.141.htm
