Lone Star College-CyFair welcomes the dynamic duo Brittany Ham and Justin Korver and their collaborative exhibition “After the Bonfire” on display in the Bosque Gallery Oct. 2 through Nov. 6.
“This joint exhibition builds on Brittany and Justin’s explorations as a team and we are delighted they are creating brand new works just for Bosque Gallery,” said Heather Braman, gallery coordinator. “They are premiering a tapestry that will run the length of the wall as well as soft sculptures never before seen.”
Ham and Korver, both artists and educators, are “exploring the narrative structures of European painting, tapestry and sculpture that depicted the hunt” in this unique fall exhibition.
They say their work flips the presentation of hunting with “the relationship conventionally representing men as masculine predators actively pursuing the passive feminine prey. Our work challenges this tendency and has associated the feminine with hunting dogs and the masculine with the stag to subvert historical depictions of gender roles.”
Gallery visitors will see their creations of “hybrid creatures that blend the dogs, deer, and humans of the hunt into singular figures” as well as “figures that blend into their landscapes and suggest our relationship to the more-than-human world.”
Attend an insightful 1:30 p.m. discussion with these artists at the Oct. 15 Library Art Talk. Learn more about the artists’ process and joint exploration of painting, construction and the relationship between femininity and masculinity.
