Explore solutions to environmental challenges with posters, interactive displays, industry speakers and more this year.

Join Lone Star College-CyFair’s annual free Sustainability Day Summit - a day dedicated to biodiversity, sustainability and community action with topics such as AI, circular economy, low carbon energy and more - set April 20 as part of Earth Week.

“Now in its third year, the Sustainability Day Summit brings together students, faculty, industry specialists and community partners to explore real solutions to today’s environmental challenges. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with innovative ideas, connect with experts, and discover how they can be part of a more sustainable future,” said Professor Dr. Sarah Morgan, summit organizer. “This year’s event also features an interactive display highlighting Lone Star College System’s recent Level II ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation and its role as a living laboratory for sustainability.”

Supported by the Society for Low Carbon Technologies, the day begins with remarks from the society’s Board Chairman Fernando C. Hernandez and keynote speaker Tony Wanningham with Equinor, an international energy company, who will share his story, energy transition + lithium extraction and what the future holds.

Drop by the college’s Conference Center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to view posters and interactive displays by LSC-CyFair students and departments as well as industry partners. There will also be fireside chats with distinguished guest speakers from the Houston Zoo, the Houston Botanic Garden and Space Center Houston, to name a few. Be sure to check the schedule at LoneStar.edu/Sustainability for details and more activities.

LSC-CyFair’s Environmental and Sustainability Club will kick off Earth Week with an 11 a.m. presentation “Daytime Pollinators” Saturday, April 18 at the library’s monthly Gardening 101 program, which began last spring through collaboration with a Native Plant Society of Texas member and typically features presenters from the Harris County Master Gardeners Association Speaker's Bureau. Program attendees will also get a native plant seeds packet from the Seed Library, which the library started in 2023 funded initially by the Friends of the Library.
