Chancellor's Student Essay Contest at LSC-CyFair, LSC-Cypress Center, and LSC-Westway Park Technology Center“How my Lone Star College Experience has Influenced my Life”

Share your personal experience at Lone Star College conveying how the impact of your educational experience has shaped and directed your life.

Student Eligibility

  1. You must be enrolled full time for Fall and Spring in credit classes or hours required by your Health Occupations program and have successfully earned your high school diploma or GED certification.
  2. You must submit through your "home" campus. Students attending LSC-CyFair, LSC-Cypress Center, or LSC-Westway Park Technology Center should use the email link below. Students at other LSC campuses should send their essay submissions to their schools.
  3. You must be working toward your first credential or degree.
  4. A prior winner cannot win again.

Essay Guidelines

Please submit the following to Kristin.R.Henze@lonestar.edu

  • Name
  • Contact Information
  • Essay (not to exceed two (2) typed pages, properly formatted and double- spaced)
  • Essays will be evaluated for expressive writing style, grammar, form and emotional impact.

Contest Deadline

You must submit your essay by 5:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Selection Process

  • Two recipients will be selected from each college (including main campus and centers combined), with preference for one male and one female, and will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a certificate of recognition from the Lone Star College Foundation.
     
  • This award is to be used for the student’s next full-time semester (preferably Spring 2025) for tuition, books and fees. No recipient can receive funds after Spring 2025 unless prior arrangements have been made with the Foundation.
     
  • The Chancellor and LSC Foundation will select students to read their essay at the LSC Chancellor’s 2025 Donor Appreciation Lunch.
     
  • All recipients will be invited to the event and can bring a maximum of two guests, however only the selected students will be speaking.
