Election Overview

The Lone Star College System Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring that the Lone Star College System is an integral part of their communities and serves their ever-changing needs. Learn more about Lone Star College System here.

The Board of Trustees usually meets on every month's first Thursday at 10:30 a.m., except in January when no regular Board Meeting is scheduled. Click here to view information regarding our current Board of Trustees, including profiles, schedules, meeting records, agendas, and notices.

The members of the Board of Trustees of the Lone Star College System District are elected and hold office for a term of six years. The terms are staggered. Trustee elections are held every two years on the first Tuesday of November. There are nine single member districts that span across parts of Harris, Montgomery, and San Jacinto counties.

Trustees for Districts 3, 4, and 9 will be elected on:

  • November 3, 2026
  • November 2, 2032

Trustees for Districts 5, 6, and 7 will be elected on:

  • November 7, 2028
  • November 7, 2034

Trustees for Districts 1, 2, and 8 will be elected on:

  • November 5, 2030
  • November 4, 2036

Accordingly, candidates are encouraged to independently review and confirm their legal obligations as prescribed by law, the Texas Ethics Commission, the Texas Secretary of State, and any other relevant legal authority.

About Lone Star College

Lone Star College System District (the "System") enrolls over 90,000 students each semester providing high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education. The System is training tomorrow's workforce today and redefining the community college experience to support student success. Mario K. Castillo, J.D., serves as Chancellor of the System. The System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area and has been named a 2025 Great Colleges to Work For® institution by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The System consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College. The System's service area includes the territory within (i) Aldine, Cleveland, Conroe, Cypress Fairbanks, Humble, Klein, New Caney, Magnolia, Montgomery, Splendora, Spring, Tarkington, Tomball, and Willis independent school districts in Harris, Montgomery, and/or San Jacinto Counties; and (ii) Huntsville and New Waverly independent school districts in Walker County.

Qualifications

In accordance with Texas Election Code § 141.001 and Lone Star College System Board Policy Manual, I.H.1.03 Qualifications, candidates must meet certain qualifications to qualify for the office of Trustee. A candidate must:

  • be a U.S. citizen;
  • be 18 years of age or older on their first day in office, whether by appointment or election;
  • have resided continuously in Texas for 12 months;
  • have resided in the territory from which the office is elected for six months;
  • and reside in and be registered to vote in the trustee district in which they seek to serve.

A mentally incapacitated person is not an eligible candidate and may not serve as Trustee. Likewise, a candidate or Trustee cannot be a convicted felon unless they have been pardoned or otherwise released from resulting disabilities. A Trustee may not receive compensation.

2026 Trustee Election

The election for Board of Trustee Districts 3, 4, and 9 will be held on November 3, 2026. Absent holidays or emergency closures, the Lone Star College Office of Elections will be open to receive in-person  applications between July 20, 2026 and August 17, 2026, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Candidates may only submit an application via fax or email if simultaneously filing a petition (SOS, Form 2-51) in lieu of a filing fee.

Code of Fair Campaign Practices

The Texas Legislature encourages candidates to subscribe to the Code of Fair Campaign Practices, codified in Title 15, Chapter 258 of the Election Code. To subscribe, a candidate may submit  a completed Form CFCP to the Office of Elections either in-person or electronically at lsc-elections@lonestar.edu. Subscription is completely voluntary.

Candidates who file Form CFCP may indicate their subscription to the Code of Fair Campaign Practices in political advertising as allowed by the Texas Ethics Commission.

Campaign Finance Reports

Texas Election Code § 254.0401 requires all political subdivisions to post on their website all campaign finance reports filed on or after September 1, 2023. The campaign reports must remain on the political subdivision's website for five years after the report is first made available.

Election Filing Procedures

To be placed on the ballot, qualified candidates must complete and submit three forms to the Office of Elections:

  1. Campaign Treasurer Appointment for Non-Judicial Candidates and Officeholders (See Texas Ethics Commission Form CTA and Instructions)
    1. This form appoints the candidate's Campaign Treasurer. The appointment must be made before publicly announcing an intent to run, accepting any campaign contributions, or spending campaign funds. Candidates may appoint themselves.
    2. This form must be submitted by email to lsc-elections@lonestar.edu or in person at:

  1. Application for Place on the General Election Ballot for City, Schools and Other Political Subdivision Elections (See Texas Secretary of State Form 2-49 and Instructions)
    1. Applications for a place on the ballot will be accepted in the Office of Elections beginning Monday, July 20, 2026, through Monday, August 17, 2026, Monday - Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays or emergency closures.
      1. A filing fee of $200 or a petition (Form 2-51) signed by 200 registered voters (residents of the district for which the candidate is filing) is due at the time the application is filed. The $200 filing fee will be accepted in the form of cash, check, cashier's check, or money order.
      2. If a petition is submitted in lieu of the filling fee, the petition will be verified in accordance with Texas Election Code §§ 141.062 and 141.063.
    1. Please note that the section in which the candidate swears an oath must be notarized.
    2. Note that the Public Mailing Address and Public Email Address are both marked as optional.
    3. Pursuant to section 552.1175 of the Texas Government Code, candidates who are qualifying individuals may request that information from their candidate application which identifies their home address, home telephone number, emergency contact information, date of birth, and social security number be restricted from public access.
    4. A drawing for placement on the ballot (date and time TBD) will be held at:

  1. Spelling Confirmation Statement
    1. The Office of Elections will ask candidates to sign a statement confirming the exact spelling for their names as it is to be printed on the ballot along with their applications for candidacy.

2026 Trustee Election Results

After polls close on November 3, 2026, the Office of Elections will begin posting unofficial results to the table below as in accordance with unofficial data from Harrisvotes.com. The Board of Trustees will later hold a special meeting to canvass the official results in accordance with Section 67.004 of the Texas Election Code.
