Warda Binte Zahid attended Nimitz High School and began taking classes at LSC-North Harris as a dual credit student. After one semester on campus, she graduated in 2023 and became a full-time student. She has attended classes at other LSC campuses but said she prefers ours.
“My favorite campus has been LSC-North Harris,” Zahid shared. “It has opened doors to many opportunities including the Honors College and clubs. Transitioning from high school where I barely participated in extra-curricular activities, I had one goal, and that was to be more involved.”
While taking her GOVTH-2305 class, Zahid wrote an honors research paper on the violation of the 8th Amendment in US black sites abroad, and while doing her research, she discovered her passion for political science.
“I realized that being a professor meant helping students find their passion, and an honors director was helping them achieve their goals,” Zahid explained. “With that, I decided whatever career I end up doing, it has to be one that helps others.”
Her most meaningful accomplishments so far are presenting at the Great Plains Honors Conference and hosting a chess tournament at LSC-North Harris, the campus she loves so dearly.
“The people make LSC-North Harris welcoming, including the professors, custodians, and the students,” Zahid said. “I love the community we have made, and I know a lot of friends who love coming here to see one another even if they don’t have classes.”
