Lone Star College System is committed to providing all students access to services, resources, programs and events to ensure their success. LSCS held its second Spanish Language Commencement Ceremony for nearly 80 graduates and their families May 10 at the M.O. Campbell Center.
“The Spanish Commencement Ceremony at Lone Star College is important because it celebrates the cultural and linguistic diversity of our student body,” said Magdalena Mendoza-Starck, Ed.D., LSC-North Harris vice president, Student Success and commencement keynote speaker. “For many of our students and their families, Spanish is their first language, and this ceremony allows them to fully engage in the moment, understand the proceedings and feel included.”
The Spanish Language Commencement Ceremony recognized those students who persevered over life’s challenges to earn an associate degree and/or certificate. As the graduates crossed the stage at the M.O. Campbell Center, LSCS administrators, faculty, staff and loved ones celebrated their milestone achievement and encouraged them to continue pursuing their academic or career goals.
“Lone Star College’s Spanish Language Commencement Ceremony was a great way for my family, especially my grandparents, who are mainly Spanish speakers, to be included in this important milestone in my life,” said Eunice Hernandez, who graduated from LSCS with an Associate of Arts in Teaching. She is working on a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a teacher certification from University of Houston-Downtown.
