The Student Government Association (SGA) at Lone Star College–Online has proudly received the Gold Level Chapter of Excellence Award from the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA), at this year’s annual State Convention in Galveston, Texas.
This prestigious Gold Level Award highlights the dedication and hard work of the Lone Star College-Online SGA, it recognizes chapters that demonstrate outstanding leadership, community impact, and excellence in governance. It is the highest honor awarded by the TJCSGA. The TJCSGA is a vital student-led organization representing students at both state and national levels, playing an important role for the community college student voice and serving over 70 member colleges and more than 700,000 students.
The Lone Star College–Online SGA is led by student president and recent Associate of Science graduate, Kadian Brown, with support from Casey Timme, Manager of Student Life. Kadian shared:
“This school year, our SGA championed initiatives geared towards total inclusion while we connected virtually.
We successfully collaborated with different clubs and organizations to highlight, encourage and share awareness - giving students the opportunity to participate in campus activities and to also feel heard and seen.
As SGA President, I was incredibly honored to have represented Lone Star College–Online and to accept the Gold Level Chapter of Excellence Award at the TJCSGA Conference. This recognition is a testament to our hard work, passion and commitment to improving as a student body.
For me, this award holds a special significance - it represents a year of learning, dedication and ultimately, reward. It’s a reminder that student leadership can make a real difference, and by working together, we can create a more supportive and inclusive campus environment for all.”
Casey Timme, a Lone Star College alumna and former Student Adviser at Lone Star College–Online, founded the Student Life department as its manager, just two years ago. Since then, she has helped launch six online clubs, including a Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
“As a former Lone Star College student, I know firsthand how transformative Student Life can be. It gave me confidence and a sense of belonging.
I am a passionate advocate for Student Life, and winning this award is deeply meaningful to me. Our virtual SGA empowers students to speak up for their peers and make real change. At Lone Star College–Online, we’ve had to rethink engagement—everything we do is virtual, and that requires innovation.
Looking ahead to 2025–2026, we plan to expand professional development opportunities for our students and host a series of themed guest speakers, guided by our SGA Officers’ strategic vision. Our goal is to keep SGA intentional, innovative, and impactful.”
