Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery art season opens with Stanley Bermudez’s dynamic and colorful contemporary painting exhibition “Alternations” on display Aug. 28-Sept. 25.
“One striking characteristic of my paintings is the use of vibrant colors which I believe comes from growing up in Maracaibo, Venezuela and being exposed to the colors of the city, to Venezuelan folk art, to the work of the Guajiro Indians and their tapestries,” said Bermudez, a lifelong artist.
Making art began for Bermudez as a young boy in a family where “art was a form of play and entertainment and still is today,” he shared. While his mother was an artist and his sisters studied graphic design, his passion for art led to a fine arts career in higher education for two decades, with some time as adjunct faculty at LSC-CyFair. Currently, this artist is pursuing a PhD in Visual Arts.
The “Alternations” exhibition pulls artwork that draws on family and his Latino heritage, trips to China as well as people in history and pop culture from a variety of series he’s done which explores the interaction of color and three-dimensionality, exposes various points of views and features people portraits.
To meet this talented artist and learn more about his inspiration, attend the 5:30 p.m. opening reception Aug. 28 and join an insightful 1:30 p.m. discussion of his work at the Sept.10 Library Art Talk.
