Where does the talent and imagination of student artists and designers come to life? Where do students get first-hand lessons in the art of putting together a gallery show? Where will students soon be collaborating to design immersive, interactive art installations? At Lone Star College-CyFair this April, May and June.

A Memorable Student Art Showcase and Wearable Art Fashion Show

Visitors can not only peruse, but also purchase, award-winning artwork in two- and three-dimensional design, photography, drawing, painting and color theory.

Those who attend Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. opening reception and awards ceremony will also enjoy a memorable experience at this year’s wearable creations fashion show. This unique precursor event to the two-week gallery display is a great opportunity to visit with LSC-CyFair’s talented student artists and designers about their imaginative and creative one-of-a-kind inspired pieces.

A Student’s Behind-the-Scenes and Art Program Perspective

Max Manning head shotContributing to the success of the college’s student art exhibition, are students like Max Manning, an emerging artist and possible future museum curator or conservator-restorer, who is part of Bosque Gallery Coordinator Heather Braman’s student volunteer art installation crew. Having grown up watching and assisting her mother (an artist and elementary school art teacher) prepare for exhibitions, Manning said she knows just how much work installation is and that every extra hand is greatly appreciated.

Under Braman’s watchful eye, Manning and nearly a dozen volunteers learn how to use tools to hang and handle the artwork safely, arrange the pieces in a gallery setting and gain hands-on gallery showcase experience they wouldn’t get otherwise.

“My vision was to provide students an opportunity to learn how to install and curate artwork in a professional space with the hope that they will have the skills to move from studio work to showing their own pieces in galleries,” said Braman.

“Heather does an amazing job explaining how everything should be laid out and teaching us the required techniques for hanging and labeling,” said Manning. “Setting up the gallery personally helped me really appreciate every step of the show process and allowed me to know what to expect when setting up my own art shows in the future.”

Volunteer Max Manning levels a painting in preparation for last fall's student art show. Manning, who dabbles in quite a few mediums including acrylic paints, watercolor, oil pastels, drawing and crocheting, is currently focused on her love of ceramics as a non-degree seeking student enrolled at LSC-CyFair, where she has already earned two associate degrees. As a Cypress Lakes High School student in the College Academy, she graduated in 2023 with a STEM degree. However, taking a Gothic to Modern Art class as her last credit course and volunteering in the Bosque Gallery reignited her love for art so she continued at LSC-CyFair graduating in 2025 with an Associate of Applied Arts.

“I love that art doesn't have to make sense, is a form of expression and can also tell a story,” said Manning. “LSC-CyFair’s Art Department has an amazing staff who cares. Professors allow you to express yourself however you'd like, as long as it follows the assignment regulations. They aren't breathing down your neck or telling you how you're wrong; they guide you and show you how to do it better in the way you want. I have had so much fun in this program and have made many memories.”

A New Interactive Media Design Course

Taking art to the next level with unforgettable, mesmerizing art experience, LSC-CyFair is offering a new Interactive Media Design course starting June 8.

Students will explore innovative art media and work with other creative students to design and create an immersive, interactive art installation. The artwork is driven completely by what the students want it to be and will be shown on campus much like is seen at Houston’s Meow Wolf, Seismique and ARTECHOUSE
