Whether students need study space, research assistance, or tutoring, the Lone Star College–North Harris Library & Academic Support department provides free professional services to help students perform their personal best. Campus data prove that students who take advantage of information literacy instruction, tutoring, and supporting academic workshops consistently perform better in the classroom than their peers.
The LSC–North Harris Library & Academic Support services are in three connected buildings on campus: Math tutoring in Winship Building, room 110; Science tutoring and an open computer lab in the Academic Building Learning Center, room 200; and the library on the second and third floors of the Library Building. In the Library, students can find Makerspace, writing tutors, research support, collaborative learning spaces, and other technology intended to help students succeed from their first semester through graduation.
"Our goal is to ensure that all our students benefit from the expertise of our professional staff, and the broad range of library and academic support services, resources, and facilities we have to offer,” Brandon Hodge, Director of Libraries & Academic Support at LSC-North Harris shared.
Institutional Research data demonstrate the impact of these services. Students who participated in librarian-led instruction completed their courses at a 94.2% rate, compared with 94.8% for students who did not participate. More importantly, 76.5% of information literacy instruction participants successfully completed their courses, compared with 68.5% for students who did not receive library instruction.
Students attending academic workshops also saw strong outcomes. Workshop participants achieved a 98.1% course completion rate and an 87.5% success rate, compared with a 94.8% completion rate and 68.7% success rate among students who did not attend workshops.
Tutoring services produced similar results. Students who used tutoring completed courses at a 93.9% rate and earned a 76.6% success rate, while students who did not use tutoring posted a 94.8% completion rate and a 68.5% success rate. These findings suggest that academic support services can significantly improve a student's likelihood of successfully completing a course.
Beyond the numbers, students continue to value the everyday resources available through the library. According to the Spring 2026 library survey, the five most frequently identified resources by LSC–North Harris students were:
- Computers
- Individual study spaces
- Printing and copying services
- Help from library staff
- Research databases
These resources support students throughout every stage of the academic journey, from completing assignments and preparing presentations to conducting research and studying for exams.

Faculty members are also encouraged to partner with Library & Academic Support staff by scheduling library instruction sessions, connecting students with tutoring services, and incorporating research consultations into coursework. Institutional data demonstrates that students who engage with these academic support services are more likely to successfully complete their courses.
