KINGWOOD (October 19, 2026) – Lone Star College-Kingwood is celebrating another successful showing at the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA) TheatreFest.
The department was awarded the “School of Distinction Award” – Exemplary – for the second year in a row.
“Write the Next Act” TheatreFest took place at Moody Gardens in Galveston, September 30 through October 3. During the conference, students had the opportunity to participate in dozens of workshops to learn about acting, lighting, productions, and meet professional entertainers from many forms of theatre.
TxETA also offered students a college audition opportunity where their auditions could be viewed by more than 125 college theatre directors and professional training studios.
“I was incredibly nervous to audition at TXETA,” said theatre student Caitalin Campbell. “However, right before, Professor Eric Skiles told me to ‘shine bright, and everyone will love you.’ I reset and pushed through, growing as an artist and a person from this experience.”
LSC-Kingwood students received the following awards and recognition:
- Caitalin Campbell – Musical Theatre Auditions
- Automatic acceptance to 3 four-year institutions
- 5 callbacks
- Paloma Sadegh – Design Fest
- 2nd place overall Stage Management presentation
- Andres Chavez, (LSC-Kingwood PT Tech III), -- Acting Auditions
- 6 callbacks from four-year institutions and conservatory programs
Paloma Sadegh said the festival was a great opportunity to learn from professionals in the industry.
"I am so grateful for all of the brilliant people I was able to meet at TxETA. Winning this award has given me so many opportunities I would never have had before. My friends and mentors at LSC-Kingwood theatre have supported me every step of the way,” Sadegh shared.
Technical Theatre Interns Jose Reyes and Kayla Crowson also assisted in running the evening of performances on October 2.
“What a thrill to share the TxETA conference with our finest theatre students again this year,” said LSC-Kingwood Theatre Director Eric Skiles. “This year, five students were chosen to be interns through a highly competitive process and they each excelled in their jobs running the conference. They also represented themselves and LSC-Kingwood well in Design Fest, at Auditions, and running the Performance Space. Everybody wants our students at their universities!”
During the TheatreFest, Skiles presented “Go with the Flow – Smooth Transitions in UIL OAP” and technical director Meredith Taylor offered a workshop on how to restore and clean lighting instruments on a budget.
