Four Earn Didwell-Liebling Opportunity Scholarship

Scott and Marian Liebling continue to help Lone Star College – CyFair students achieve their academic goals as they award Natalya Miranda, Carmenza Ramirez, John Micheal and Venecia Soto the 2013 Didwell-Liebling Opportunity Scholarship.

Established in 2012 in honor of the couple’s parents and family, the Lieblings have now awarded scholarships to 14 students in financial need.

“All these students demonstrated excellent academic abilities and a sincere desire to pursue their education even though they were experiencing some difficult times,” said the couple. “It is our pleasure to be able to assist them as they pursue their educational goals.  We wish them all the best.”

Miranda, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, plans to transfer to the University of Houston to study communications and advertising and possibly double major in graphic communications.

“Receiving this scholarship was recognition for all my effort and it felt like a compensation for all the time and endless nights studying,” she said. “In addition, I felt that it was an indication that I'm going in the right direction and if I keep studying and giving my best, I will be successful building my career.”

Soto, who has only been in the United States four years and started at LSC-CyFair in ESOL classes, has earned her associate degree and plans to transfer to the University of Houston to major in civil engineering and minor in business.

“This scholarship actually meant a lot and came in at the perfect time.I was not going to be able to take classes this semester due to the suspension of my financial aid,” she said. “I am infinitely thankful to the Lieblings for being the amazing people they are and caring so much about our educational goals. They are making a big difference in my life and I am sure that in other students’ lives as well.”

Ramirez, who is majoring in biology and has plans to become a dentist, said she was surprised to receive the scholarship and is not only thankful for the support but feels it’s truly a great privilege to be a recipient.

Micheal, who is also planning to major in biology and become a dentist, said he is not only thankful for the financial assistance since he works nights at Wal-Mart to help out his family while his dad is working in Egypt, but if he has the opportunity to give scholarship to students in the future, he will.
