Lone Star College-North Harris hosts workforce information sessions for careers in pipefitting

Lone Star College-North Harris was recently awarded the Wagner-Peyser grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, affording students the opportunity to participate in a specialized workforce program. The college will be hosting a series of information sessions to introduce prospective students to the programs offerings.

The grant, in the amount of $287,845, will allow 90 students to receive training in the non-credit, FastTrack Pipefitting Certification program through the college’s Continuing Education department. Students will receive training and career services with the goal of obtaining gainful employment. The grant covers training and all training supplies and textbooks for students enrolled in the program.

Students enrolled in the program will receive National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) training over a five-week period. NCCER is recognized as the training, assessment, certification and career development standard for the construction and maintenance craft professions.

All of the pipefitting program Information Sessions will begin at 10 a.m. in the college’s Community Education Building, room 102, located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive in Houston.

Students in the program must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. Citizen or able to work in the U.S., and if a male, have registered for the Selective Service. The grant also provides assistance to veterans, their spouses, and dependents.

Once students have successfully completed the academic requirements for the program, the college will provide resources and job placement assistance to graduates.

Classes are held every five weeks at LSC-North Harris. The next class will begin in February 2017 and will continue until August 2017.
