Lone Star College-North Harris Announces New Director of Financial Aid

Humble resident Zarita Barton recently joined Lone Star College-North Harris as director of financial aid.

Dr. Derrick Manns, vice president of enrollment management at LSC-North Harris said, “We are very excited to have Ms. Barton join our leadership team at the college. She brings to us a wealth of knowledge with regards to financial aid and her proven success at other higher education institutions will make her a valuable asset to LSC-North Harris.”

According to Dr. Manns, some of the most common problems faced by today’s community college students are financial. “Forty-three percent of all students attending LSC-North Harris and 58 percent of First Time In College (FTIC) students are on some sort of financial aid, which includes grants, loans and scholarships, Dr. Manns added.

“I believe that the financial aid office is a critical part of student success and each staff member has the opportunity to make an impact on a student’s life,” said Barton. “Without financial aid, many students would not be able to afford higher education, but financial aid administrators have the unique ability to help overcome those financial barriers.”

Barton most recently served as the assistant director of customer service and outreach in the financial aid office at the University of Houston Downtown.

Barton earned her bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in communications at the University of Texas at San Antonio and master’s degree in higher education administration from Sam Houston State University.
