Acclaimed Actress-Director-Educator to Provide Rare Opportunity for Tomball Area Singer-Actors

TOMBALL, Texas – Singing-actors with a passion for the footlights will have an opportunity to showcase their talents and get a candid evaluation from acclaimed actress, director and educator Kaitlin Hopkins.  Ms. Hopkins, who has worked in theater, film and television for over 30 years, will coach, counsel and inspire local performers during a Lone Star College-Tomball Masterclass event on October 4, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the LSC-Tomball Performing Arts Center

“Kaitlin Hopkins is at the forefront of 21st century musical theater training. The program she has created at Texas State University is among the most successful and truly nurtures young talent,” said Dr. Lisa Morales, LSC-Tomball Fine Arts Department Chair and Music Program Director. “LSC-Tomball is fortunate to host an amazing opportunity for area singer-actors to perform and receive coaching from Ms. Hopkins.”

This Masterclass event is open to singer-actors in the Tomball area.  To participate, performers should register online at http://www.lonestar.edu/tomball-masterclass.  During registration, singer-actors will need to provide the title of the two-minute musical theater piece they plan to perform along with a head-shot and resume.  Additionally, performers are asked to create a video audition and upload it to the link provided.  For performers who want an accompanist, one will be available.  The cost to perform is $99 and participants will be screened in advance.

Ms. Hopkins believes in a “holistic, individualized approach to artist training,” and offers reassuring words for performers looking to advance their skills saying. “Great work lives in stepping outside of one's comfort zone, not in the pursuit of perfection."

The event is open to the public and admission is $25.  Proceeds will benefit scholarships for LSC-Tomball Fine Arts. Observers must also register at the link above.

The 2018-2019 Masterclass season commemorates LSC-Tomball’s 30th anniversary and the beautiful artistry and advanced educational opportunities it provides for students and community members.  The Masterclass events enable performers to receive immediate feedback that is constructive, positive, and encouraging. The performances are typically conducted as a public event so that all who attend can benefit from the teaching.
