LSC-University Park Student Q&A: Alexandria Flores

Alexandria Flores graduated from LSC-University Park with an Associate of Arts degree and plans to transfer to a four-year university in the spring. Read her student Q&A to learn more about her experience at LSC-University Park.

1. What are you studying at LSC-University Park?
I recently graduated with my Associate of Arts (AA) degree with a focus in business. However, I decided to continue my education at LSC-University Park for another semester to prepare myself to transfer to a university.

2. What does earning a degree mean to you?
To me, it means challenging yourself. Earning a degree is not easy. It is a lot of nights stressing and doubting yourself. But in the end, it shows you can grow professionally and are trying to be the best you can be.

3. What are some of the biggest advantages of attending a community college?
Community colleges offer many of the same classes as a university at a fraction of the cost. It is very affordable and allows students to save while attending school. Also, the student-to-professor ratio is much smaller, allowing you to connect more with students and faculty.

4. What campus resources have helped you the most?
The tutoring hotspots have allowed me to excel in my courses. Even with the transition to online classes, LSC-University Park was still able to provide online tutoring to students.

5. Why is it important to get involved with student activities?
Being involved with any student activity allows you to meet student leaders with the same interests and passions, allowing you to network and grow as an individual.

6. Where is your favorite place to study on campus?
In the Student Learning Resource Center (SLRC), you can reserve a quiet study room by yourself or with a group of students. Most of the study rooms have a whiteboard and a tv to connect your laptop. Vending machines are not too far away if you want to take a break and the view from the 8th floor is fantastic!

7. What are your goals after graduation?
I graduated in May 2021. I would like to transfer to a university in the spring to earn my bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s degree.

8. What is your advice for incoming students at LSC-University Park?
LSC-University Park is filled with resources such as advising, financial aid, tutoring, and many more that are provided to you as a student—take advantage of these resources. Join organizations! It provides you the opportunity to network with student leaders and faculty who will ensure you become the best leader, student and person you can be.
