Visiting Painter Captures Unique Portrait Creations of Self-expression in Art Exhibition

Come see the unique creations of self-expression captured on canvass in the opening art exhibition, “Portraits Within Portraits”  on display Jan. 24 through Feb. 21 in Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery.

“I am affected, at times, before I ever begin working – by a story, even a verbal quip – and I have to create it visually,” said Nancy Hines, a local artist classically trained in Florence, Italy at the Angel Academy of Art. “I need ways to inspire others to try, so I experiment with varied approaches to subject matter, expression, techniques, and materials.”

This portraits collection is about the road to a series of collaborative portraits in which the models themselves create a self-portrait in the form of a headdress. They then wear their own self-portraits to model for the paintings.

Hines is a lifelong learner who considers life to be a series of adventures and challenges.  She has not found a discipline or medium of art that she doesn’t enjoy and each artistic concept or medium only adds enticement to her creative process.

Learn more about the educational pursuits and influences on her artwork in person at the opening reception from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 and the Tea+Art+Talk at 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The Bosque Gallery is located in the Center for the Arts building on the Barker Cypress campus at 9191 Barker Cypress. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. For information, go to LoneStar.edu/bosquegallery or call 281.290.5273.
