LSC-University Park library announces recycled book art winners

Each semester, the students in select art classes are assigned a recycling/up-cycling project in which they create a piece of art using an old, discarded book. The Student Learning Resource Center (SLRC) displayed the artwork, and invited students, faculty and staff to vote for their favorites!

The unique project celebrates the power of the imagination and brings attention to the importance of recycling.

Valerie Pantaleone received first place for her book sculpture “Il Lume Della Conoscenza,” while Alex Castro received second place with her piece “Wild Cats Behind Your Back.” Marissa Gaines took third place with “Dreamy Dessert.”

The Art Department at LSC-University Park offers a range of foundation and intermediate art courses, including options in art appreciation, art history, drawing, painting and design. Registration for the December Mini-Mester and the spring semester begins Nov. 13. Visit LoneStar.edu/UP for more information.
