Nursing program prepares future healthcare workers for essential careers at LSC-North Harris

The next wave of healthcare workers is being trained locally in the Houston area through the Lone Star College-North Harris Nursing program at the college’s Health Professions Building.

Nursing careers are growing in importance due to COVID-19, and the program offered through LSC-North Harris is the perfect fit for those looking to make a difference in their community.

Students enrolled in the program receive instruction from faculty with more than 300 years of combined nursing experience, which has led to the passing rates on the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) continually exceeding the national average.

“One of the unique features of the nursing program contributing to this success is its integrated curriculum, which approaches patient care across all age groups simultaneously rather than in segments or conditions such as maternity nursing, pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, etc.,” said Marinela Castaño, nursing program director.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, student Anthony Burdick completed his essential training at LSC-North Harris to graduate on time and pass the NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse.

“I was super stressed before taking the exam, but as soon as I answered a few questions, I realized I was very well prepared,” Burdick said. “In fact, I think it was easier than many of the nursing tests we took during school.”
