LSC-University Park, Klein ISD partner on Vistas Early College HS

Creating ‘firsts’ is nothing new for Lone Star College-University Park. When Klein ISD made the decision to establish its first-ever early college high school beginning with the 2021-22 school year, its long-time partner, LSC-University Park, was equally committed to make it happen.

Vistas Early College High School (ECHS) offers students a clear path and a unique opportunity to complete a high school diploma and earn up to 60 college credit hours toward an associate degree with LSC-University Park – with the cost of tuition covered.

The initial “Class of 2025” students, along with their families, joined with Vistas ECHS and LSC-University Park staff for an induction ceremony held at the Vistas campus.

"Lone Star College-University Park is excited to expand its partnership with Klein ISD as we launch the Vistas ECHS together," said Dr. Shah Ardalan, President of LSC-University Park. "This level of collaboration between our two award-winning entities will undoubtedly benefit students, parents, and the community. Every Vistas student will have access to our innovative, competent, and compassionate faculty, staff, and advisers as they complete their associate degree along with their high school diploma. Our graduates will be fully prepared for the next step in their journey, whether they pursue a bachelor's degree or begin their career."

In addition to the academic advantages, Ardalan noted the economic benefit that parents will experience, including having the first two years of college tuition paid for through the program. He also expressed his appreciation for Dr. Jenny McGown, Klein ISD Superintendent, who has been a strong visionary leader not only for Vistas ECHS, but for the district’s popular dual credit program with LSC-University Park. McGown shared the sentiment.

“I’m grateful for our continued, strong partnership with Lone Star College,” said McGown. “It’s an honor to collaborate with our partners in higher education to bring unique opportunities to our secondary students so they may earn college credit, including their associate degree, while earning high school credit. I look forward to seeing the many accomplishments from the students at Vistas ECHS cohort.”

Students in the inaugural class will participate in a Summer Bridge Program that will prepare them for the coursework they will experience with Vistas ECHS, including the college-level classes they will complete along the way. Faculty, advisers and other student support staff from LSC-University Park will be available throughout the academic year, providing in- and out-of-the-classroom support, including tutoring.
