Winter Storm Fern: Update 1

In preparation for the Arctic Chill expected this weekend, Lone Star College System will announce any closure decisions by 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Updates will be shared via email, LoneStar.edu/Alert, and @LoneStarCollege on social media. Please ensure your contact information is current in LoneStarCollegeAlert to receive text notifications.

We also encourage you to download the SafeZone app and sign in using your LSCS credentials.

At this time, normal operations continue. The System will continue monitoring weather conditions and providing timely updates. Your safety remains our top priority.

An Arctic Chill is expected to bring freezing rain and a hard freeze to the Houston area this weekend. If the inclement weather impacts operations at any LSCS location, the System will provide updates through email and our website at LoneStar.edu/Alert. You can also connect with us on social media by searching @LoneStarCollege on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.  

The System also provides updates through LSCS email and text messages via the LoneStarCollegeAlert system. Make sure your personal contact information is correct by following the instructions found on the LSCS Alert page. Your cellphone number must be on file and labeled as a mobile number to receive texts.

We will continue to monitor the weather and will provide you with timely and accurate information. Visit the National Weather Service for the latest weather information.

In the meantime, please take the following precautions:

  • Stay warm and indoors.
  • Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
  • If possible, bring pets and plants inside.
  • Protect outdoor pipes and plants with blankets or other insulation methods.
  • Ensure your emergency kit is ready to go.
