GOAL STATEMENT:
To create a revolutionary measure that provides students with the ability to clearly demonstrate to potential employers the professional competencies they have earned, in addition to their grade point average.
Description: The job-seeking landscape is changing, with more employers focusing on competencies such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Lone Star College students will have a distinct advantage if they can present tangible evidence of the competencies they possess
According to NACE’s Job Outlook 2025 report, employers have decreased their use of the GPA as a screening tool, from 75% in 2019 to 46% in the latest report. The latest report also states that academic major and “demonstrated proficiency in competencies replace GPA. Companies that do screen for GPA also report that a “candidate’s proficiency in competencies” is a factor they consider in the hiring process. Similarly, LinkedIn reports that recruiting leaders will be prioritizing soft skills, stating that 69% of US executives say they plan to prioritize hiring candidates with soft skills.
