At Lone Star College-Montgomery, student success is more than a slogan, it’s the goal that drives faculty and staff to help students prepare for a brighter future.

“I owe a lot of my success to the faculty and staff at Lone Star College-Montgomery,” said Ricardo Saavedra who is studying finance. “Their hard work and incredible skills have taken me to places I wouldn’t think I would ever be in.”

One special moment for Saavedra was meeting an advisor who motivated him to look beyond himself to see something bigger.

“Meeting with Honors College advisor, Tara Devoley, motivated me and encouraged me to pursue the Honors College program and understood my reasons for wanting to stay another year to attempt to get into a more prestigious transfer institution.”

The Honors College helps meet the needs of high-achieving students seeking to improve their college transcripts and transferability with challenging coursework provided across a broad range of disciplines. Honors College courses engage and challenge students both inside and outside the classroom through small class sizes and close interaction with dedicated faculty.

Saavedra also took advantage of activities outside of the classroom, acting as a marketing specialist for Conexión and Business and Finance club. He was also part of the Honors College Leadership Program and served as PTK Vice President of Leadership.

Asked what he advice he would offer to someone thinking about attending Lone Star College-Montgomery, Saavedra said “I would tell someone to be active on campus and get close to your professors. Being closer to Lone Star College-Montgomery’s community and campus life really helped me access all the opportunities that I was presented with.”
