Honors in Action

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society logo

Honors in Action (HIA) combines academic research, problem solving, and action-oriented service to address real-world challenges in our communities. Students gain job-related experience while creating lasting impacts in their communities as they engage in HIA.

The program is accessible, flexible, and scalable for all chapters regardless of differences like student majors, chapter size, or college size.

For 2021 - 2022, the Beta Upsilon Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Lone Star College - University Park focused on the impact of volunteerism.  Specifically, "How have craftsmanship, trade, and industry practices in non-profit volunteer organizations shaped civilizations, and how will they impact future generations?"

Today, the average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. As we get older, even the most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our independence. Add to that an increase in geographic mobility of our families, and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry and alone.
